I feel horrible for not writing...

but people? HUGE progress. After almost ten years of frustration, I was able to make love with my husband. I have a little team of specialists working with me: a therapist, a SEX therapist and a gynecologist. I live in Memphis, which has a wealth of resources available, but AASECT has folks all over the country, too.

So here's a breakdown of my cure.

We meet Dr. Ling (his real name!) at Women's Health Specialists. My sex therapist recommended him, and I can't possibly thank her enough for doing it. He is patient and gentle and very familiar with my problem. He starts out by inserting a glass test tube into my vagina. Slowly, slowly with Josh there in the room.

Years of Kegel exercises have given me pretty good control over my vaginal muscles. So Dr. Ling slowly inserts it, alternately telling me to expand and contract my muscles. Imagine my surprise when about 20 seconds later he says, "Ok, that's it!" It was IN, people! With no pain or drama on my part! Josh was FLOORED! Dr. Ling told us to go home and continue to practice with the dilators. Expand. Push the dilator in a teensy bit. Contract. Stop. Breathe. Expand. Push a teeny bit more. Continue, using patience and lots of lube. Success!

We used all the dilators except the huge one since I think it's absurd. It took some months for me to be completely comfortable, but eventually Josh was able to insert his penis, the same slow, painstaking way. A while after that, we're able to have sex! It's still not perfect. I still get scared, sometimes there is pain at the beginning but we're finally making HUGE progress.
